Discovering your soft spot
Your soft spot is where you feel tender loving emotions. It is the spot in your heart beneath all the toughness and depression. To reach it you have to risk encountering feelings you might otherwise wish to avoid, such as fear, grief, anger, anxiety and conflict.
Facing the fear, conflict and negativity with a willingness to keep to the heart open even in the most challenging circumstances.
To do this requires courage. True warriors who preach meditation are not afraid to feel tender or to communicate their tenderness.
You can take care of yourself, even protect yourself from harm when necessary, without closing your heart. An open heart does not dis-empower you or make you ineffective but allows you to respond to situations wisely and skillfully because you can feel others suffering too.
This soft spot has tender sweetness that is often tinged with sadness and melancholy about the human condition.
You may find it slightly painful to open your heart at first, because of this sadness’s touch is one of the seeds of compassion. Without experiencing this soft spot feeling the sadness you cannot develop compassion. If you fear opening to this tenderness you cannot develop this compassion which is a muscle that strengths with exercise.
