30 Apr How helping the community is helping me (Yoga in Hounslow)
During these unprecedented times, I have instinctively and promptly put in place a series of rituals and practices to ground me. These practices are built around my usual habits and I’ve now extended these to the community. By offering these out as follow-along classes, it’s helped build my commitment and responsibility for the health and wellbeing of others, and in the process I am having to stay committed to my self care rituals at a time when all of our lives have had an abrupt overhaul.
The practices I have installed include:
8:30 am Pranayama and meditation via live stream on YouTube (Everyday)
2.00 pm Workout via Instagram Live (Weekdays)
9.00 pm Relaxation and reflection time via live stream on YouTube (Weekdays)
My commitment to the community has helped me stay fit and also, at a deeply personal level, is keeping me mentally resilient for my caring responsibilities to my elderly parents.
Buddhism incorporates a variety of rituals and practices intended to aid in the journey of enlightenment. The same is true for many religious cultures, sport players, influential entrepreneurs and successful scientists and artists. The rituals, habits and practices encourage a state of flow which allows the whole of the nervous system to relax quickly and get on with being creative and play and in this state, work and chores immediately become fun and less of an effort.
Our daily meditation at a given time and place and in a certain manner is a ritualistic practice. Repeating the mantra, concentrating on the sounds and being mindful of the words in a given order allow the whole process of instilling positive cues in a time when we are surrounded by chaos and uncertainty.
What are your daily rituals?
