16 Feb FREE Chair Yoga Classes For Elderly In Heston! (Update)
I wanted to take this opportunity to update you all on what’s going on with our project to give free chair yoga classes to the elderly.
Free Chair Yoga from March 10th!
I’m pleased to announce that the classes will begin on Monday 10th of March (12 PM – 1 PM). We wanted to start earlier in the year but its been so cold and wet that it didn’t seem ethical to try and get elderly and frail people out in such bad weather. I’m hoping it will be a lot milder outside by March!
The classes will run until Thursday 17th of April. We want this period to act as a trial run as this is our first attempt at running a non-profit organisation (it’s been a steep learning curve!). Once we’ve learnt the lessons from this first run we’ll organise a second.
CLASSES
The classes will run from Monday 10th March – Thursday 17th April
Classes every Monday & Thursday (12 PM – 1 PM)
LOCATION
Heston Community Centre (Main Hall)
Vicarage Farm Rd, Heston,
Hounslow TW5 0EE
PURPOSE & BENEFITS:
Chair yoga is a gentle, accessible form of exercise that offers numerous benefits for the elderly with pain or mobility issues. The classes are designed to:
- Alleviate Chronic Pain: Through gentle stretching and relaxation techniques, participants should experience a reduction in pain and discomfort.
- Improve Mobility: The exercises focus on enhancing joint flexibility and muscle strength, thereby improving overall movement and balance for fall prevention.
- Boost Mental Well-being: The practice of mindfulness and controlled breathing during the classes promotes relaxation and stress reduction.
- Enhance Social Interaction: These classes provide an opportunity for residents to engage with one another, fostering a sense of community and mutual support.
Getting Word Out to Everyone
I’m currently pursuing local and charitable bodies to get help funding the marketing & promotion of the classes (banner, flyers etc.). So far, the Freshwater Foundation have kindly granted us £500 and we’re currently working on other applications
Since you all have kindly donated money to pay the hall fees for the classes, I owe it to you all to make sure I do my very best to fill the hall!
If you know any elderly people who could benefit from these free classes, please let them know. Feel free to forward this email to anyone you think might be interested.
We’ll have the flyers printed soon. If you would like some flyers to hand out to anyone you know who might benefit from the classes, please let me know.
Website
The Heston Wellness Centre now has its own early stage website and it’s own logo. To take a look go to www.hestonwellnesscentre.org
Thanks to Radhika and Mash for their work on the website, and thanks to Mash for designing our logo.
A Big Thanks To……..
A big thank you to all of you who donated and volunteered towards this project. This would be impossible without all you help!
Thanks to Harps and Bal for inviting me to teach chair yoga, and Dean to teach tai chi at Brantford leisure Centre as part of a local imitative to help fall prevention in the elderly.
Thanks to Sandeep for agreeing to become the third director of HWC, as almost all funding bodies require a minimum of three directors / trustees. As Sandeep is a barrister who prosecutes high level fraud for a living, he’s added a lot of credibility to the organisation.
Thanks to Roshi, Daljeet, Diego, Kam, Harvi, Kulpdip, Anshu, Mash, Radhika, and Arvind for volunteering their time and advice, as well as helping us make connections within local and charitable bodies.
