Emotional Awareness

Emotional Awareness

In the Sunday’s meditation class for children we looked at “emotions”.

As the children from 7 years and onwards are now coming across emotions from hormonal changes I thought it would be good to bring about emotional awareness.

I asked the children to describe to me all the emotions that they can have and they listed the following emotions: –

Happy
Scared/fear
Tired
Surprised
Excited/thrilled
Nervous
Frustrated
Bored
Worried
Courageous
Sad
Angry
Brave
Lonely
Shocked

We looked at why we have emotions.

Emotions make us feel
It makes us respond in one of the above ways above
Emotions make us take action or non-action
Emotions motivate or can demotivate us

The characteristics of emotions –
we looked at how we could feel more than one emotion at any one time.
We could start with one emotion than it could change to another so one moment we are happy the next we are sad
We could be overwhelmed with emotions

The benefit of meditation: – when we meditate we learn in a relaxed method to settle and steady our emotions.

At this point we did some rounds of Surya Namaskara and set down to meditate.

Looking forward to next week.
