21 Sep Children’s Yoga – Colouring
Children and colouring together
In my children’s yoga classes I focus on developing concentration by bringing relaxation and calmness by the medium of colouring intricate designs like mandalas, drawing and tracing, drawing fun as well as meaningful pictures.
What are the advantages of colouring for children?
- colouring pictures, tracing are educational tools. They are learning complimentary and contrasting colours through practice, experience whilst having fun; seeing and applying perspective; composition of a theme and how this theme is expressed. They are grasping, thinking, choosing and applying colours, shapes, perspectives themes.
- Colouring works their imagination and gives them the opportunity to express themselves and be creative. Before beginning and expressing the drawing and colouring children visualise and create an image in their head
- It improves fine and gross motor skills: increasing strength and dexterity to manipulate pencil onto paper. This is more needed now as children are much on computers and iPads with their fingers.
Colouring helps coordinate the mind and breath with physical movement of the pencil. This later improves children’s writing skills and improves putting though and thinking into paper.
- Hand and eye coordination is also improved. Looking at finer details and gross pictures helps with adjusting hand and eye to maintain balance and implement what the child has conceptualized
More to come later…..
