I came across butekeyo breathing about 5 years. Having been recommended a book called “close your mouth”. My nose was constantly blocked and I went to the five day course to learn Butekyo breathing to help me get rid of the nasal congestion. I practised it every day, it was very difficult and then the practice got put aside.

I started meditating consistently about 4 years ago and I could see the benefits of the meditation on me. I was mentally more relaxed with myself. My mind was a lot calmer. But in order to meditate I needed to be able to breathe through my nose and I found that when I took antihistamine everyday my nasal congestion would go away. So for the last three years I remained on the tablets. I had polyps in my nose, that was not helping me to breathe through my nose. The antihistamine reduced the inflammation caused by irritations.

The doctors prescribed me with steroids and I took them as it was quick easy and my nose would work to help me meditate. At the end of last year I found that I started getting wheeziness like asthma.
I did not like this and now there was the scare of a link between antihistamine and Alzheimers. This motivated me to take control. In Christmas 20015 I made a decision that I would stay off these tablets and look for an Alternative method. My desire to get back to meditation, as I could not do this without a working nose, kept me going and I think I have now found an alternative in Butekyo breathing
